Reincarnation of a Walnut Tree

A few years ago, a wind-storm plunged the neighbour's walnut tree into my yard.

I got the trunk of this huge tree as compensation.

I cut out a lot of three centimetre thick boards of this.

Camera Holder

If we would like to take flytying pictures, snapshots or movies from a fixed position, facilitates the subsequent works very much, if the camera is fixed firmly in place raporting to the fly (or to the vise).

A camera holder was made ready based on Mr. Paskay’s (MCI) idea and can be fixed to the vertical rack pole of the vise.

Many people believes, that for tying efficient flies we need only some basic materials. This is so presumably, but one of the most interesting occupations of the flyfishing - according to me – is flytying, what is distinguished hobby on wintertime and the case of very grim weather as well.

 

If we leave to lead to angle somewhere it’s recommended to carry with ourselves a basic fly tying kit, which everybody compiles according to his own idea.

Big Hole Demon

Once upon a time I found a streamer pattern on the web, called Big Hole Demon Silver. Tried several times for trout and it works. The frontal body is voluminous and pushes the water, the tail and the hackle prevents lateral deviation during retraction. The original fly has a body formed partially from silver tinsel. I considered, that there is a big lack between the tail and the body, therefore I renounced to the silver tinsel, despite the fact that it is shiny and attractive, but filling the bare section with something bushy (eventually cul d'oie) the fly is more balanced and produces more turbulence.

Smaller size marabou streamers collapse during retracting in the water, they are skinny and their real benefit is showed only when the fly is stopped during the towing, when they show an irresistible pulsation.

If we tye them with stouter body, with more feather, they will be more „muscular” during the towing, the water is pushed better, more traces are left, but at the time of stopping a pulsing tassel will be formed, which is not beneficial in all cases.

Peacock Quill Attempts

For tying tiny dry fly bodies one of the most important materials is the peacock-quill. Popular material, but his completion,- if we do not want to buy it ready- rather troublesome.

Erasure method is good, works for me, but it is time-consuming. His important benefit is, that the quill can be painted. On the other hand, erasure produce a lot of waste material, mainly the thinner segments tear easily. Heavy to hit the good eraser.

The best quill is made of the 4-5 year old peacock tail feathers.

Tiszavirág (Tisza Mayfly)

Palingenia longicauda, sometimes known as the Tisza mayfly is an aquatic insect in the Order Ephemeroptera, after the European Tisza river where it is found.
The presence of P. longicauda is an indicator of clean unpolluted water. Now extinct in many European countries, it can be found mainly in Hungary on the Tisza river.
